Training in the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life
We all have an extraordinary potential for enlightenment – a state of limitless peace, love, and wisdom through which we can be of immeasurable benefit to others and to our world. The best way to realize this potential is to emulate the life of a Bodhisattva, a person committed to attaining enlightenment for the sake of all living beings.
In this 5-week course, based on Modern Buddhism, we will learn how to transform our own present life into the journey of a Bodhisattva, regardless of what our job and daily life involves. In particular, we will be introduced to the six perfections of a Bodhisattva, and the amazing practice of taking and giving.
April 6: Making the journey to enlightenment
April 13: What Bodhisattvas do
April 20: The magical practice of taking and giving
April 27: How to take away others’ suffering
May 4: How to really make others happy

Buddha’s Wisdom Teachings Set Us Free
The profound knowledge of emptiness, the true nature of things, gives us the freedom to see things from a fresh perspective and to delight in our daily experiences, seeing them as opportunities for growth and transformation.
In the prologue to Modern Buddhism, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso writes: “I particularly would like to encourage everyone to read specifically the chapter Training in Ultimate Bodhichitta. Through carefully reading and contemplating this chapter again and again with a positive mind, you will gain very profound knowledge, or wisdom, which will bring great meaning to your life.”
In this 7-week course we will do just that: explore the liberating truth of the wisdom realizing emptiness as presented in this chapter. Developing this wisdom liberates us from the limiting self-conceptions with which we ensnare ourselves in unhappiness and problems. With this wisdom, we see ourselves, others, and our world as people and places of limitless possibility.
May 11: The dream-like nature of things
May 18: The emptiness of our body
May 25: Letting go of our limited sense of self
June 1: The emptiness of the eight extremes
June 8: Wisdom makes everything possible
June 15: Gaining mastery over our minds and lives
June 22: Enjoying emptiness in everyday life

KMC Colorado is very happy to present a study and meditation course on the book Modern Buddhism, which covers the entirety of Buddha’s teachings of both Sutra and Tantra.
This course is open to everyone, and especially suitable for those wishing to follow a more clear and structured path of Buddhist study and meditation. For this reason, students are encouraged to come along to as many classes in the series as you can, and to read the book alongside the classes.
Over several series of classes, we can learn to integrate the profound methods of Buddhism into our modern daily activities to help us lead more peaceful, joyful, productive, loving, compassionate, wise, and meaningful lives.
Through teachings and guided meditations, Kadam Lucy will show us how to connect to our Buddha nature — our potential for happiness, freedom, and eventually enlightenment — and how to actualize this extraordinary potential through the path of modern Buddhism.
Modern Buddhism is the distillation of Geshe Kelsang’s life’s work of bringing Kadampa Buddhism to the contemporary world in an accessible and modern presentation. It is a treasury of exquisite practical liberating advice.
The book is available in our bookstore and also as a free download. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, founder of KMC Colorado, is a world-famous Buddhist master who has written 23 highly acclaimed books, including Modern Buddhism. As he says:

Geshe-la, as he is affectionately called by his students, is primarily responsible for the worldwide revival of Kadampa Buddhism in our time.
From the age of eight Geshe-la studied extensively in the great monastic universities of Tibet and earned the title ‘Geshe’, which literally means ‘spiritual friend’. Under the guidance of his Spiritual Guide, Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche, he then spent the next eighteen years in meditation retreats in the Himalayas.
In 1977 he accepted an invitation to teach at Manjushri Kadampa Meditation Centre in England, where he has lived and taught ever since, giving teachings and guidance to an ever-growing group of disciples.
Each year, Geshe-la gives teachings and empowerments at the International Kadampa Festivals, which are attended by thousands of people from all over the world.
He has published a series of remarkable books on Buddhism and meditation, from basic introductory books to advanced philosophical texts and meditation manuals.
Geshe-la has established three unique study programs and 1100 centers and groups around the world, trained hundreds of qualified Teachers and a flourishing ordained community, and created a project to build Buddhist Temples in every major city in the world.
In his teachings Geshe Kelsang emphasizes the importance of meditation and how to apply it in daily life, the need to be truly happy, and how to cultivate a good heart to help others — and he demonstrates these qualities perfectly in his own life.
This remarkable Teacher inspires so many people from so many different countries because he teaches from example.
He is a humble Buddhist monk dedicated to helping people throughout the world find true happiness in their hearts.
Kadam Lucy James has been a close disciple of Venerable Geshe Kelsang since 1981. She worked with him to help edit most of his books, and has been practicing and teaching Buddhist meditation for over 3 decades. She has also spent multiple years in meditation retreat.
