About this Retreat

Join us for this special close retreat where you will be able to deepen your faith and reliance upon Guru Sumati Buddha Heruka following the oral instructions that Gen-la Dekyong received directly from Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. Gen-la then passed these instructions on to our Kadampa family during the Spring International Festival 2022. Together during the retreat we will draw closer to our root Guru and create very powerful actions that will cause Kadam Dharma to flourish not only in your own heart but throughout this world. There is no better way to repay our Guru’s kindness. The retreat will take 3 -4 weeks to complete. Completion time will vary due to the self-guided nature of this retreat.

At the 2022 NKT-IKBU International Spring Festival in Malaga, Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong shared an important instruction from Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. He asked Gen-la Dekyong to give the transmission and commentary of the Mantra Of Guru Samati Buddha Heruka, requesting all New Kadampa Tradition Centres and practitioners to engage in retreat to collect 100,000 recitations of this mantra, as well as 10,000 Vajradaka mantras with burning offerings.


Gen-la Dekyong explained how this mantra is the very essence of the guru yoga of Guru Samati Buddha Heruka. By reciting this mantra with faith, a pure motivation, and strong conviction in the law of cause and effect we will place very strong potentials within our mind to easily accomplish all spiritual attainments. This is magical.

This year you will have to the opportunity to fulfill Venerable Geshe-la’s request and join a Guru Samati Buddha Heruka counting retreat at Kadampa Meditation Colorado.

About the Teacher

Kadam Lucy James

Our main teacher at KMC Colorado is Kadam Lucy James. One of the senior teachers of Kadampa Buddhism, Kadam Lucy has taught extensively in England, Florida, and San Francisco, and helped set up many thriving meditation centers since 1981. She is regularly invited to teach courses around the United States and Europe due to her skill in presenting both simple and profound subjects with great clarity. For many years, one of her main jobs was to help with the editing and production of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s books, and she has engaged in extensive meditation retreat.
