About the Event
Often when things go wrong in our lives, we cast about for someone to blame and/or conclude that life is unconscionably unfair. Maybe we think there is some arbiter of our fate, some supernatural law-giver who is punishing us, and we feel angry or guilty. We ask, “Why me?” There are actually two questions we can ask: (1) Why is this happening? (2) Why is this happening to me? Through contemplation and meditation, we can discover numerous reasons, including not just the external circumstances, but the deeper causes that lie within our own minds.
During this Saturday course, experienced Buddhist teacher Kadam Lucy James will guide talks and meditations on karma. Karma is a natural law that governs us, like the law of gravity, whereby our intentions are the causes and our experiences are the effects. It is not the same as fate or predestination because we can improve our karma by understanding how it works. That wisdom gives us free will.
Understanding karma also helps us to accept what is happening every day with a peaceful and positive mind, and gives us the ability to change it, to become creative architects of our own lives and futures. This day course will give us great encouragement and hope.
If you would like to attend in-person, please register early as we have limited space.

Our main teacher at KMC Colorado is Kadam Lucy James. One of the senior teachers of Kadampa Buddhism, Kadam Lucy has taught extensively in England, Florida, and San Francisco, and helped set up many thriving meditation centers since 1981. She is regularly invited to teach courses around the United States and Europe due to her skill in presenting both simple and profound subjects with great clarity. For many years, one of her main jobs was to help with the editing and production of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s books, and she has engaged in extensive meditation retreat.
